Food Hygiene Inspection for Say It With Brownies

On Friday afternoon I received a phone call from the Isle of Wight Council saying my food hygiene inspection for Say It With Brownies was due. While I was confident there would be no issues as I’ve done my training and keep a very clean kitchen, I was keen to get it over and done with! Therefore we scheduled it for 9am Monday morning.

I will admit to giving everything a special clean on Sunday evening after I’d finished baking brownies, as well as a bit of extra hoovering to make sure the Say It With Brownies kitchen was absolutely spotless.

Sure enough the inspector, David, pulled up onto our driveway at 8.50am. He was being polite and sitting in his car until the allotted appointment time, but I was ready so I ushered him inside.

Happily everything went really well. David washed his hands, had a look around, asked some questions and went through his paperwork. Say It With Brownies is a very low risk food business as only butter and eggs are kept in the fridge. I know from previous inspections that I must use supermarket eggs and the fridge must be the correct temperature.

I managed to find my folder for ‘Safer Food, Better Business’ which David took a look at. He took many photos of my ingredients, paperwork, packaging and of course the brownies themselves.

At the end he produced my sticker with 5 star food hygiene rating. What a relief!

As a low risk business I am only checked every three to four years so I probably won’t be seeing David for a while. The inspections are very important to protect the public, but they also protect me as we have evidence that I follow all food hygiene protocols in case anything were to go wrong.

I know it’s Monday but I might have a cheeky glass of fizz tonight to celebrate. After I’ve finished baking today’s brownies of course!
