Why do you select your despatch date when you order brownies?

When I started Say It With Brownies back in 2011, I decided that when customers order brownies by post, I would ask them to select their preferred despatch date rather than a delivery date.

The reason for this is that it’s extremely difficult to guarantee a delivery date with 100% confidence.

I’m aware that it’s a little confusing and we’ve done our best to ensure that the Say It With Brownies website is as clear as possible. It’s very rare that I encounter a misunderstanding about it as customers are very good at reading all the information when they checkout their order.

It doesn’t matter whether parcels are sent by Royal Mail, DPD, Evri or FedEx, none of these carriers are infallible.

At Say It With Brownies, we use Royal Mail. There are many reasons for this. Firstly, they cover all addresses in the UK and Northern Ireland. Not all couriers do. Secondly, their Tracked24 service is extremely good. You receive regular email updates on the progress of your parcel, and the vast majority of parcels do arrive the day after despatch. Thirdly, no signature is required so my letterbox friendly gift box can simply pop through a letterbox. No need for anyone to be home.

So back to despatch dates and which date to choose. I’d say that if you’re ordering for a particular occasion, usually a birthday, choose a despatch date at least two days before you want your brownies to be delivered. It might be that they arrive early, but that doesn’t matter too much as the brownies stay fresh for over a week. If it’s a treat for you or a thank you gift for example, it probably doesn’t matter too much which day your brownies are delivered, so most people just choose the next available date. Indeed for the vast majority of my orders, the next available date is selected as no-one wants to wait too long for their yummy brownies to arrive!

I hope that explains why I ask you to choose a despatch date instead of a delivery date when checking out your brownies by post.
